This game don't give a sh***tLittle bit more shameless plagiarism of Metroid than Axiom Verge (it's cool!)Challenge that shreds the butt like an Binding Of IsaacSweet retro art, interesting rooms variations and lot of locationsPretty monsters and tasty meat that you can cook with a variety of weaponsThe only negative side: in some rooms it is difficult to not die when you jumping over spikes. This game is a blast to play.Some years ago I had an idea of making procedural metroid-like game.. And it seems like Matt Bitner not only beat me to it, but made it much better than I think I could!One of the best things about this game is that it is not as nail-biting hard as many other roguelikes. The difficulty is just right. It is fair and does not expect you to be an absolute jedi to see its content and finish the game.Do NOT buy this game on sale! Buy it full price to support the developer so he can make other great games!. It's basically the game you wanted that Super Metroid Randomizer to be.. If you have a severe hatred of animated meatballs, and want to take them out Super Metroid style. This is your kinda game. Just don't step on the spikes okay?. It's like I asked the gods to give me infinite Super Metroid and they heard me.. To start, I suck at this game. It controls exactly like super metroid and if you know what that controlled like it was a little awkward with how you shoot and jump. I can last about 3-4 bosses in a run now. The game feels like super metroid compressed into a roguelike. I don't know how many bosses there are but each time I play, I encounter new bosses and I've never seen and have new power ups that I've unlocked and see new environments. Some rooms are the same but for the most part, it succeeds as a roguelike metroid which is very exciting to me. It is an awesome game.Edit 5\/19\/2019: After now having spent 38 hours in the game working to get all of the achievements and ultimately succeeding, I can say I no longer suck. I can consistently beat the game. In addition there are some really cool mechanics I didn't know anything about. There is a co-op mode where you can have someone come in and play an orb in a twin stick shooter kind way. The orb can get damaged so it isn't a pure upgrade and its not like having 2 robots but it is an addition I enjoyed. As you get upgrades to your shots, the orb does as well. It effectively doubles your damage output and can collect items which makes the game a lot easier. Shrines, There are shrines in this game to various mechanical gods where you can sacrifice resources for upgrades. You'll probably waste a few runs figuring them out and how to get buffs\/relics consistently. Hint: there is a number on the screen that reveals how it works while you interact with them.Anyway, the game is still awesome and I love it.Edit: 5\/25\/2019 ok so it got a new patch and I've experienced all of the new things. It appears to have changed the generation of certain rooms to make them not dead ends and made the end game a little bit more interesting. Liquids were added as an obstacle and quite a few new items were added. They are pretty cool and certainly change things up and add more customization options. Overall a really good change for free.. I am very happy that I purchased this game. It plays a lot like Super Metroid and has some Castlevania elements to it, but it also has its own element to it in that it starts out in similar areas but then it branches on its own and becomes a different play through every time. I have not tried the deathmatch or time trial modes yet, but I will say that the people who think this game is clunky haven't picked up enough boost items yet and are probably used to much more modern and less retro style games, because this takes me right back to the 90's and the Super Nintendo days. Definitely pick this one up.
